| ORS 576.225 Qualifications of members.
(1) A member of a commodity commission must, during the term of office of the member: (a) Be a citizen of the United States. (b) Be a bona fide resident of the state. (c) Have an active interest in the positive development and economic growth of the commodity industry in Oregon. (2) A producer member of a commission must have paid an assessment adopted by the commission, if any, on the commodity in each of the preceding three calendar years. A handler member of a commission must have collected an assessment adopted by the commission, if any, on the commodity in each of the preceding three calendar years. How to apply to the Oregon Sheep Commission to obtain financial support for an industry-related project The Oregon Sheep Commission places an assessment on the sale of wool for the purpose of enhancing the image of Oregon’s sheep industry and Oregon lamb and wool products, increasing demand for those commodities, increasing the knowledge regarding the healthful and useful qualities of these commodities, as well as to support research that benefits the production, processing, and marketing of Oregon lamb and wool products. The assessment funds collected by the Commission may be used to support specific projects benefiting Oregon’s sheep industry and producers with a specific project they believe would benefit the industry may submit a written request for financial support. To qualify for the handler position, an individual must have collected the assessment on wool and submitted assessments to the Commission for at least three years. The term of office is four years. Anyone interested in submitting an application will need to complete one of the Application & Qualification forms and submit it to the Oregon Dept. of Agriculture’s Commodity Commission Program Manager.
